This is a big one – first up, a
Mint Club debut for the undisputed kingpin of the Paris techno scene,
who happens to hold down a long standing residency at the underground
mecca that is DC10, and also founded and ran one of our favourite labels
for 7 years – the critically and popularly adored Freak N Chic.
Introducing man of the moment - Dan Ghenacia. And joining him for this
special event we have one of the leading figures of the Capital’s
underground Sunday sessions, founder and resident of London’s notorious
Fuse events – Enzo Siragusa. You heard.

/// Dan Ghenacia
Dan’s love affair with music ignited when he spent a year in
California, soaking up early West Coast house and psychedelia. Dan
parleyed this passion into a record selling business on his return to
Paris, but as a true fan of the music he didn’t just want to peddle
vinyl – he wanted to play it. The next few years of Dan’s career flashed
past in a whirl of light, sound and notoriety as he helmed a notorious
after-party at Batofar. It made his name in Paris and started to
generate a buzz around Europe, where he was increasingly travelling. But
– at the height of its success – Dan pulled the plug. “People were
really unhappy,” he recalls, but he had new challenges to meet.
Quitting a successful night can break an average DJ – but it can make a
great one, and Dan used his new-found freedom to accelerate his career,
stamping his distinctive intelligent-techno-meets-d
Always averse to peer pressure, Dan avoided Ibiza for years – until
DC10 won him over – and he quickly scored a coveted residency there. “I
was afraid Ibiza was going to be cheesy,” he grins. This caution about
chasing “the next big thing” is apparent in Dan’s work – and it’s the
trait that has enabled him to effortlessly ascend to the dance music
A-list without ever compromising his style. Both as a DJ and producer,
and as a label’s head, Dan unfailingly stands for quality over quantity,
substance over style, and, well, freakiness over mere chic. His Freak
n’Chic label ran for seven years and through his long-standing residency
at Circoloco in DC10 and years of subsequent touring, the Ghenacia
gospel has spread far and wide. Discovering artists such as Dyed
Soundorom, Djebali, Anthony Collins and even releasing the debut Jamie
Jones EP, Dan knows good music and continues to deliver it. This year
will see Dan launch his new label ‘Appollonia’ with long time friends
Shonky and Dyed Soundorom – watch this space.
/// Enzo Siragusa
Enzo Siragusa is one of a dedicated cavalry of DJs leading the charge
to put London back at the forefront of the electronic music scene. His
Sunday afternoon FUSE party at 93 Feet East has converted a new
generation of clubbers - and a few huge name DJs - to the joys of deep
dubby house and techno, marathon DJ sets and a cosy little courtyard in
Brick Lane. After a decade of DJ-ing and a couple of lost summers in
Ibiza Enzo turned to the capital and played around with various venues
before settling on 93 Feet East in 2008 to launch an all day rave every
Sunday. Focusing on a type of music rather than the name of the DJ,
hypnotic grooving extended sets were the order of the afterhour,
promotion was strictly word of mouth, entrance was guestlist only, and
the response was swift. Enzo explains...”the sound we play is so much
deeper and dubbier than you'd get in a night-time club, we've educated
the crowd to the stage where we can play almost anything in there...we
can go deep....and it will still go off. At the end of the day I'm a
raver... I know how I would want to feel on that dancefloor, how I'd
want to rush, and feel the music. That's the most important part of a
party!”
Going back to Ibiza was the obvious next step; with a
big proportion of the FUSE faithful in tow, and Enzo took up residency
first in Playa D'en Bossa's Delano, and then the following year in
Ushuaia, whilst the London party continued to grow in popularity. His
gigs across Europe have spread the FUSIC sound to places such as Bar25
in Berlin, Space in Ibiza, and Studio Martin in Romania, but Enzo's
heart will always belong to Brick Lane. Enzo's close knit group of
residents has entertained the likes of tINI, Nima Gorji, Davide
Squillace and of course Loco Dice, who popped in for an unannounced
session last November. Straight off the dancefloor itself, Enzo has now
nurtured a collective of hot young DJs and producers all dedicated to
the cause of FUSE, with a label and agency already making waves.
