History

In 1997 Val Rose started to look for a cafe or coffee shop in partnership with her sister. They had no intention of buying a nightclub, what sort of lunatic would have? A chance discovery of a small ad offering a nightclub for sale is all it took, and less than a month later they were the owners of Fiddlers, certainly one of Leeds' most exclusive night spots (note the tongue in cheek). Fiddlers had sparkly ceilings, violins on the walls, a railing around the dance-floor, sticky carpet and talking DJ.

Regardless they saw that the venue would be ideal as an intimate dance club with unusual and tasteful decor and a good quality sound system. There was nothing like this in Leeds at the time. They started to talk to Dave Beer, and decided to launch it as The Mint Club together.

The rest is more legend than history as the last 11 years has seen Richie Hawtin, Derrick Carter, Little Louis Vega, Steve Bug, DJ Sneak, Michael Mayer, Danny Krivit, Magda, Sasha and Derrick May amongst many other DJs grace the decks at the Mint Club.

But in 2008 it was time for a change and in January the Mint Club came under new ownership. A £500,000 refurbishment soon followed over the summer months including the installation of a Funktion One sound system and pioneering, state of the art “disco-panel” lighting technology, and on September 6th 2008 the newly revamped Mint Club opened it’s doors to embark upon the latest chapter in the club’s colourful history.

The new owners of the Mint Club already have a wealth of experience throwing parties further afield in Thailand with the likes of Sven Vath and Corvin Dalek after deciding to build their own club on Ko Samui inspired by many years travelling around to parties in Germany and Holland. Since moving back to Leeds this was followed by a series of free parties in a pub which attracted guests including Slam, Vince Watson, Dave Angel, Funk D’Void, Jamie Anderson and Billy Nasty. Although the free parties were great fun, the Mint Club presented the perfect space in which to launch a club night and do it properly.

The Mint Club management is now pleased to present it's first and only in-house club night, System, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month as well as one-off bank holiday parties. System’s focus is on forward thinking, underground house and techno and already has official partnerships with Cocoon and Kompakt making it the exclusive host of Cocoon and Kompakt parties in the city of Leeds.

The Mint Club along with popular events such as System, Louche and Filth on weekends also hosts student events throughout the whole week. Please check the events section for more details and future lineups.

The Club

The Mint Club

The Mint Club has undergone a £500,000 refurbishment. FUNKTION-ONE are installing the sound. A cutting edge lighting system called a 'DISCO PANEL' which features in the 'Watergate' club, Berlin has been installed, the first of it's kind in this country.

On top of this the bars, DJ booth, seating areas, dance floor, toilets, and outside area have all been up graded to a very high specification.

The stage is set for the Mint to be one of the best small clubs around...a dj's paradise, a punters dream.
